In the service of science - Part 3

58 We see here that a scientist like Mister Bender avoids using the word “spirit”, even though a spirit is involved in the discussion. Where is the honesty here in this report? Here is a personal experience concerning this with our medium Uwe Speer . We were asked a few years ago to conduct a séance outside of our devotional room. We were then still at the beginning of our endeavours and research and this means that we used the “moving glass” option once in a while. We were however kept in the dark about the fact that plain-clothed policemen were present, probably there to find us guilty of fraud. We never ever asked for money for the work that we do, but people still never believed in the genuineness of our contacts. Questions were asked and they were answered through the “moving glass”. The whole thing was based on writing with a glass that moved from one letter to another letter of the alphabet. The circle of people present was strictly controlled whilst the medium wrote. One of the policemen, he had not been introduced as such, suddenly demanded that the medium should be blindfolded. He then convinced himself that is was impossible to see through the thick bandage. Whilst putting his question and waiting for answers by means of the movements of the glass, he quickly and quietly turned the alphabet board around so that the letters were completely differently arranged . In spite of this measure, unknown to the medium, it continued to write unperturbed and this still resulted in meaningful answers. This also surprised the street-smart policeman and he really should not have found a reason to suspect a fraud. All he said was: “I will get behind this trick too and I guarantee you that I will be able to do this in a month or two also.” We never ever heard from him again. He might still be practising this as we speak. Such cases are not a rarity and tests and investigations have not abated. They fill large books, like for instance the protocols of Dr. Mattiesen . - We hold the opinion that a scientist who does not believe in the survival of the soul does not have an opportunity to inform himself about this. The Psychic Peace Circle continues to report its experiences June 1971 Just how infinitely long has it taken the sciences to decide to include parapsychology as a university science, that is to say, one did not incorporate it as such, but accepted it as an associated “para- science”? High school teachers are charged with investigating phenomena with great care, but to avoid verifying spiritualism in the process. The word “GOD” is also totally factored out from university’s domains. They say that it is not the task of this associated science to verify GOD’S existence, that this was part of the area of responsibility of the Church. This is how the situation is at the present time and this puts all para-sciences in chains. Let’s assume that a phenomenon takes place that one cannot find any other explanation for than that one is dealing with a supernatural manifestation. (Comment: Such phenomena have repeatedly taken place.) What can a salaried and acknowledged scientist say but: “I admit that this phenomenon took place, it is not a fraud, but it has nothing to do with anything supernatural.” But if he were to say: “I ascertained that this phenomenon was manipulated from the realm of the spirit in order to convince us of its existence.”
