The writhing of this odic figure, which was a perfect image of the dying woman, was caused by the effort her spirit, enclosed in its odic body, had to exert to break the odic cord that still bound it to the physical body, after the rest of the odic body had already freed itself. The husband, too, saw this odic cord plainly. The odic cord is very strong by nature, and is not easily broken.
