loving, experienced MESSENGERS of LIGHT. Our own experiences do not suffice. Theistic religions have not recognised GOD. What these religions offer is a humanisation of the UNIVERSAL SPIRIT, whose might and greatness no human beings can even approximately imagine. GOD created lots of spiritual ORGANISATIONS and they are employed to look after mankind. Bad Salzuflen, April 2008 One truth, many ways Little stories can often provide a clearer picture of what things are all about than expertly prepared scientific treatises. The well-known Indian yogi, philosopher and writer Paramahansa Yogananda once told the following story: An elephant guide had six sons and all of them were blind. He instructed them one day to go and wash an elephant. After the brothers had completed the task they began to discuss what sort of an animal the elephant was. “This is easy to answer” offered one of them. “The elephant has a pair of big teeth”. – He washed the elephant’s tusks. “How can you say something like that” protested one of them. “The elephant is like a thick rope”. – He had washed the elephant’s trunk. The third son asserted that the elephant was similar to a fan. – He had washed to elephant’s ears. The fourth son thought that the elephants reminded him of four columns. – He had washed its legs. The fifth son has washed the sides of the animal; he described the elephants as a breathing wall. The sixth and last son called out: “You cannot lead me up the garden path! I know all about this! My experience taught me that the elephant is a short piece of string hanging down from the sky”. – He had washed the elephant’s tail. All the brothers doggedly stuck to their own opinion and a heated argument between them developed. The father appeared after a while and he listen to his sons shouting at each other. He listen to this dispute that grew louder and louder for a while before he called out with myrrh: “My sons, you fight over nothing!” “About nothing?” bellowed one. “All of my brothers are liars and they have the audacity to also call me a liar!” The father said conciliatory: “My dear sons, all of you have seen only one part of the elephant and only I have seen the animal in its entirety. The elephant is everything is everything every one of you described and considerably more than all of you assume”. – He then described the elephant. He then said to them: “My sons, you can see that all of you were correct and at the same time also incorrect!” Yogananda ended his story by saying: “The same applies when dealing with GOD and with the paths the various religions tread to get near HIM. GOD is one, but the paths that lead to HIM are manyfold .
