The major sufferers are the flora and those areas still in pristine conditions, for instance Canada, who’s untouched lakes are partly devoid of life. Cause: Acid rain! A precarious situation for all living beings has come from the thinning of the ozone layer in the stratosphere spanning the world. Especially the Polar Regions have suffered a dramatic reduction in its dimensions. The ozone layer is protecting us from the dangerous ultraviolet rays of the sun like a shield. Every percentage point the total quantity of ozone is reduce by, increases the intensity of the UV- Rays by a certain number of percentage points. The results are catastrophic climatic changes, impaired growth rate of plants, reduced production of oxygen, an increased frequency rate of skin cancers and lots more. The ‘International Conferences for the Protection of the Environment’ in Ottawa 1984, in Helsinki 1989 and in Rio 1993 have identified the problematic but not chastised the culprits!
