12 December 1958 What does ARGUN say about Berlin? GREETING IN THE NAME OF GOD AND PEACE ACROSS ALL FRONTIERS! Dear friends, I know what depresses all of you: Berlin . I would like to say something about this very current problem: As all of you are aware, Berlin was already divided into different sectors at the beginning of WWII. Each of the other powers, I mean the USA, England, France and the USSR knew exactly which sector they could regard as their own. It then came to pass in 1945 that each major power settled in their prearranged district. A lot of agreements were signed at that time whereby one ascertained after six months that neither of the “Major Powers” ever thought of abiding by these arrangements, I mean paragraphs. This soon brought about the first and really worrying difference of opinion between the major players. The USSR suddenly realised that it had the muscles to act and applying its muscles, it tried to knock the others flat on their back, a complete KO. The other three united powers now realised that weeds grew from their concerted efforts. They at once tried to pull these weeds out by their roots, but it was unfortunately already too late , because theses weeds had already established themselves to a degree where they could no longer be simply removed. This is the reason why one tried to stem the source of unrest through precautionary measures. The situation grew to such a crisis during the course of the first 13 years that the united Western Powers decided to finally cooperate with one another. The Eastern Power now only dares to waggle its little finger at Berlin and when you contemplate this, you will surely remember that I indicated this some time ago. • Do not worry on this account. It will never get to the point where the West will abandon your city. This Eastern Power knows all too well that this would be the end of it. This hot potato is too hot to handle! However if this lava flow is put in motion, there will be no escape. This constitutes too great an effort. Therefore do not be concerned, it will never ever get this far. Faithfully ARGUN.
